What is a Bess system?

In each BESS there is a specific power electronic level, called PCS (power conversion system) usually grouped in a conversion unit, including all the auxiliary services needed for the proper monitoring. The next level is for monitoring and control of the system and of the energy flow (energy management system).

How does Bess work?

BESS relies on one or more batteries to store energy, which can then be used at a later time. These batteries may be charged using excess electricity generated by wind or solar farms, for example, or by grid connection during periods of low demand. Once the battery is full, it stores the electricity until it is needed.

What is a Bess Land Use?

BESS are a land use that can have value at any point on the electric grid. Communities need to assess how to host new technology including distributed generation, utility-scale generation, expanded grid infrastructure, and energy storage facilities.

What is a BES definition?

The BES definition is a component-based definition that, when appropriately applied, assesses whether facilities fall within the “bright-line” criteria established in the core definition, its inclusions, and/or its exclusions. Ownership or operational responsibilities do not impact the application of the BES definition.
